ESXi has a driver that should recognize the controller. However, the ESXi drivers don't support HostRAID which is a form of software RAID. The best you should be able to get is ESXi seeing the individual disks.

If you access the console (press ALT+F1 during the install and login with root / no password) and run fdisk -l do you see the physical disks attached to the controller?
